My War marked a seismic shift in Black Flag’s sound, splitting the album between frantic, classic hardcore on Side A and slow, sludgy, almost proto-metal dirges on Side B. That contrast sent shockwaves through the punk scene, but what once polarised fans has since become legendary. This album helped lay the groundwork for genres like sludge metal and grunge, influencing everyone from Melvins to Nirvana.

Formed in Hermosa Beach in 1976, Black Flag led by guitarist Greg Ginn and fronted by the ferocious Henry Rollins redefined punk with a relentless DIY spirit, raw aggression, and social commentary. My War remains one of their most iconic and controversial records, challenging expectations and expanding what punk could be.
